Software Defined Communications (SDC)

Overview

Software Defined Communications (SDC)

Our Software Defined Communications solutions are in operation today, interconnecting battlespaces more dependably, efficiently and seamlessly than ever before.

General Dynamics C4 Systems’ Software Defined Communications (SDC) solutions are enabled by our Wireless Information Transfer System (WITS™) technology. When embedded security is desired, we feature our Advanced INFOSEC Machine (AIM). Our solutions bring Integrated Communications, Computing, INFOSEC and Networking Capabilities into a single user-defined system that can be easily programmed to accommodate multiple platforms, emerging applications, and most importantly, the changing requirements of the warfighter.

General Dynamics SDC solutions:

  • Are interoperable with U.S. Military and Civil Agencies and NATO Forces’ voice and data communications systems — legacy systems and emerging networks
  • Are proven performers
  • Provide significant benefits:
    • support orderly migration to multiple user platforms (airborne, ground and maritime) with the same hardware and software architecture
    • support the tactical deployment and fielding requirements to meet mission objectives
    • reduce total cost of ownership (maintenance, inventory, training, installation, and upgrades) by replacing numerous disparate products and systems with a single integrated system
    • support flexible infrastructures — providing universal connectivity for legacy radio and wireline systems with an open architecture, published application programming interfaces and adherence to international standards for application development portability of software
    • allow independent security configuration
    • align with international standards published and being developed for SDRs and key enabling technologies

General Dynamics’ SDC technology also drives our AN/PRC-112G® handheld Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) radio. This digital Software Defined Radio (SDR) is fully upgradeable to add new features as they become available.
