How can you enable truly interoperable communications for 80,000 law enforcement officers and federal agents nationwide so they can share critical information and accomplish their missions safely? Leave it to the experts with over 60 years of experience to provide a large-scale, rapidly deployed, secure communications system.

On April 17, 2007, the Department of Justice announced that it selected General Dynamics C4 Systems to implement wireless communications services to Department field agents as part of the Integrated Wireless Network (IWN) Program. The IWN program is expected to be a multi-billion dollar effort over 15 years.

The IWN program is a Department of Justice effort to provide secure, interoperable wireless communications that support federal law enforcement missions and first responder operations. IWN will implement solutions to provide federal agency interoperability with appropriate links to state, local and tribal public safety and homeland security entities.

The Department selected General Dynamics C4 Systems as a result of its work during the IWN design competition, which was the final of three phases of the IWN acquisition. In August 2006, the Department asked interested companies to prepare and submit for government review wireless communication system designs and implementation plans for a specific geographic area of the country. Based on the government’s evaluation of the contractors’ deliverables, the Department selected General Dynamics as its IWN integrator. The contract with General Dynamics is also available for use by the other IWN partners.

With its team, General Dynamics has vast experience in the integration, installation, and implementation of wireless communications systems, command and control, and system security for commercial and government applications — including the current development of a nationwide wireless system for the Department of Homeland Security, Rescue 21.
