Scottsdale native Labeula Steiner Mowry has made preserving Scottsdale’s history a decades long project. Through her network of contacts, Labeula has accumulated photos, memorabilia, artwork and memories. She shares this with students, researchers, writers and historians. Without this information, residents might not know about — or appreciate — Scottsdale’s link to its past. Labeula spends her time, talent and good cheer to make Scottsdale a better place to live, work and raise a family. |

It’s been a busy year for Saguaro High student Mark Phillips. He led efforts to collect hundreds of cereal boxes for Vista’s food bank, raise money through a bake sale to send kids to hemophilia camp and organize a fundraiser to buy shoes for a Romanian orphanage. Mark then spent six weeks of his summer vacation volunteering at the very same orphanage. Mark still finds time to lead an organization he founded at Saguaro — the Red Nose Club, a group patterned after Dr. Patch Adams’ philosophy of having fun while caring for others. |

Helping people with special needs dates back to Traci Sikora’s grade school days. Today, she continues her volunteerism, incorporating her lifelong love of sports, to help those with physical and mental challenges. Traci prepares these athletes for the Special Olympics Swimming and Athletics teams and encourages them to do their very best. This Community Hero has volunteered nearly 100 hours annually for the past eight years to the city’s Adapted Recreation Services. |

Putting smiles — and pretty ones at that — on the faces of Scottsdale families in need has been a gratifying experience for Dr. Jack Wolfe. He’s a dentist with a busy practice. Yet, he always makes time to donate his dental services and supplies, and prevention materials. His generosity continues. He also volunteers as President for Concerned Citizens for Community Health, a nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of life for people needing temporary health and social services. Since its inception, the group has helped more than 38,000 Scottsdale residents.
