These individuals service to others embraces the sense of community in Scottsdale. As positive role models and mentors, they are helping to make our community a better place to live and work. They truly deserve our applause and appreciation.

 

 
Hillary Brose

Hillary Brose

“For the Luv of Dogz” a non-profit rescue agency for abandoned, abused and neglected dogs was founded by Hilary, using many of her own resources. Her organization provides temporary and permanent homes for dogs, including training, medical care and foster care. She has also recruited many people to provide supplies and monetary support or to donate their time. Together they have reduced the number of animals needing assistance, as well as reduced the number of dogs euthanized in our shelters.

 

 
Michael Gannon

Michael Gannon

Michael, who is 81-years-young, volunteers each week in a 4th grade class at Navajo Elementary. Michael has volunteered biweekly for the past four years to assess the children’s math skills, in order to assure they are placed at the appropriate math level. He also works with students who need extra time and assistance. The students look forward to his visits, and no matter what language they speak, Michael communicates with them through a warm smile. He is also involved in his community through the Rotary, his church, and the Retired Officers Association.


 
Jay McKeon

Jay McKeon

Jay is a key volunteer for three local groups. He works as a docent, greeting visitors and making them feel welcome at the Scottsdale Historical Society. Those entering Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn may also be welcomed by Jay at the reception desk. And, finally, he serves as the Resident Council President at the Nursing and Rehab Center where he lives. Jay happens to do his volunteer work from his wheelchair, demonstrating that we all must focus on our abilities rather than our disabilities.

 

 
Rick Mueller

Rick Mueller

Over a decade ago, Rick founded the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Youth Salute Chapter and enlisted his fellow Rotarians, family and friends to participate. They have developed a partnership with Scottsdale Community College. The program is dedicated towards recognizing, encouraging and developing the leadership skills of youth in our community. Personally, Rick interviews over 100 students each year and he travels with the honorees as they participate in team-building, self-esteem, and leadership workshops at a national conference.

 

 
Joe Rios

Joe Rios

Joe has devoted countless hours towards keeping his neighbors safe and informed through the Scottsdale Block Watch Advisory Council. As President, he introduced a unique program called “Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25” and secured Paul’s Ace Hardware as a sponsor to post signs in the neighborhoods at no cost to residents. He is a also a certified volunteer for the police “Lock’em Out Program,” helping to reduce crime in our community, and he spends everal hours each week at Sky Harbor Airport assisting travelers

 

 
Audrey Zerbel

Audrey Zirbel

Audrey assists seniors and the disabled at the Via Linda Senior Center as a trained member of the Benefits Assistance Program from the Area Agency on Aging. To improve the Senior Center itself, she joined the Center’s remodeling team. Her contribution of time is more than 1,000 hours to our Scottsdale community when you total her work as an election volunteer with her work at the senior center. Audrey is also on the Governor’s Council on Aging and the Council on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.
