These individuals service to others embraces the sense
of community in Scottsdale. As positive role models
and mentors, they are helping to make our community
a better place to live and work. They truly deserve

Steve Brown
Steve provides quiet and consistent support
of a variety of community projects in the South
Scottsdale area where his Albertsons store is
located. Community donations include items to
Vista del Camino and Salvation Army. Steve also
encourages participation in Albertsons’ Corus
Program which allows employees to volunteer in
the community.

Rita Marinello
Rita has been a volunteer
at the Saint Daniel the Prophet Catholic School
library for many years. By reading to the younger
children, she brings such joy and delight especially
when she shares her collection of "doll" storybooks.
Rita has organized an adult volunteer program
at St. Daniel's and in Scottsdale Public schools.

Luisa Martinez
Luisa has been a silent, unassuming steady
force that maintains cultural tradition and provides
the very ideal of what a role model should be.
All households in "Penjamo", a South Scottsdale
Yaqui community, look for leadership from her
and her family in order to keep traditions alive
for tribal members.

Janet Nations
A retired schoolteacher, Janet
has not stopped teaching and now volunteers as
a tutor at Pueblo Elementary School one morning
a week. She is very active in her church where
she chairs the Outreach Committee, and volunteers
with Vista Del Camino's Chrysalis program for
battered wives and children.

Elsie Parkin
Elsie has volunteered her energy, time
and heart at the Civic Center Senior Center for
approximately the past ten years for our senior
lunch program. She plays a big part in giving
many people a reason to come to the Center and
in reality a reason to live.

Albert Shieh
Albert’s community
service includes Boy Scout activities, volunteering
at the Mustang Library for the summer reading
program and at the Civic Center Senior Center
where he assists the seniors with computer classes.

Lyn Watkins
Lynn’s community volunteering activities
center around her nursing experience and includes
weekly volunteer work for Scottsdale Healthcare’s
Emergency Room, training and organizing hospital
volunteers to do health screenings for Scottsdale
Public Schools. Lynn also has mentored many new
Scottsdale Unified School District nurses and
Arizona State University nursing students. She
also teaches and recertifies school district nurses
in CPR.
