Do you know a Hero?
A Community Hero is … someone whose volunteer service to others embraces the Scottsdale sense of community, and who has not received an award for this volunteer effort.
The award is named for Frances Young. For nearly a half century she mentored, advised, assisted, and championed numerous local organizations and causes — simply for the good of the community. Frances summed up her life by saying, "I’ve gained far more than I ever gave. That’s what I want everyone to know." Frances died in 2009 in her late 80s.
Award Criteria
Nominees are individuals, age 14 or older, whose volunteer service directly benefits Scottsdale citizens and/or Scottsdale organizations through:
- Providing services that support education, youth or senior programs, environmental issues, animal interests, religious institutions, neighborhoods, arts and culture, or health and human services
- Performing outstanding volunteer work
- Serving as a community role model and mentor
- Demonstrating random acts of kindness
Francis Young Community Heroes honors people who recognize their responsibility to their community and possess a selfless dedication to the betterment of others and the betterment of our community.
